Dear All,
As you know by now, a few hours ago, former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka was falsely arrested and dragged away forcibly by the same military that he served so faithfully for over 40 years.
The government has alleged that the General violated the military code of conduct during his tenure as the Army Commander.
The General was arrested by the military despite the fact that he is retired and is now a civilian. Therefore such an arrest, if at all, should have been conducted by the police. If the government alleges that military law still applies to General Fonseka, the law stipulates that he should be arrested by an officer holding a similar rank. This was not the case. Under the direction of the Secretary of Defense, the arrest was made by Major General Manawadu an officer two ranks his junior violating all military and civilian protocol.
The arresting officer insulted and dragged the General away when he questioned his arrest. He has not been allowed a lawyer, due procedure of detention, or even a call to his family - as yet no one knows where he is detained or what is being done to him.
It has come to light that the administration has made elaborate plans to kill the General, their claim being that he was shot while resisting his captors.
Although we are unable to verify this fact, we believe that he is being held at the Navy camp in Rangala.
As a nation, we should be ashamed of our leaders and of ourselves. For 30 years he fought on our behalf and risked his life for each and every one of us. Be it under threat of prosecution or even death - he never faltered in his duty and never once disobeyed his honest conscience.
Now it is your duty to do what you can to save his life. We at the media center of Sarath Fonseka, urge everyone to email us at sarathfonsekamedia@gmail.com with any information of his whereabouts.
Most importantly, we urge you to contact your politicians, religious leaders, media, civil society organizations and foreign embassies and make your voice heard to save the life of General Fonseka and democracy for our nation.

ReplyDeleteI do not feel any sorry for him at all.I was listening to his speeches and he acted like a same old politician.He did not know what he was waiting for,he was also very arrogant.We all know about Rajapakse's and I did not see any difference between Fonseka and Rajapakse.He was ranking himself more than what he was,and was in a mirage where he got lost.He thought the only way to revenge from MR was to run for presidency being blind.All the other people knew he is not going to win the presidency.

ReplyDeleteAssuming you are the Aparna Fonseka, I have a few words for you. Your father was a hero but he is unable to distinguish the difference between MR and Sri Lankan nation. That is why he was trying to frame the soldiers who faithfully served his commands for bogus war crimes. He did it once with Sunday Leader and did it again with BBC. That is high treason in any part of the world.In addition, for the hatred he had for MR, he started siding with well know traitors like Ranil,Mangala, Hakeem, and Mano. What your dad stood for in the past is at the diametric opposite of what these traitors want, i.e. fragment Mother Lanka.
However, being a daughter, all above comes secondary to you. Please ask you father to not get involved in acts those can amount to treason.

The problem is not getting TNA support. The problem is agreeing to TNA anti Sri Lankan demands to get votes. MR did not agree to any of thier racist anti Sri Lankan demands. That is the difference.
If you have no idea, these were the charges under which he was arrested. If he is not guilty he can prove it. There is no breaking of democracy here.

Your fathers arrest is within the law. But arresting an Ex President can not be done under the current law. But your father said he will arrest MR if he elected. What would have been the fate of those childs? if that arrested was done which is an extra judicial, can any one even interfear? MR also would have been addred to the disappred list, if your dad elected president. Thnaks god people of Sri Lanka saved the future of the country.
No one has any right to call another a traitor unless he can prove his case in a court of law. If the General was a traitor why did the Election Commissioner allow him to contest the Presidential election? No sane thinking nation will allow that. THINK!

I am amazed at all these comments about a traitor, he tried to go above Mahinda Rajapakse etc. Mahinda Rajapakse is NOT a king. He is a Sri lankan commoner in equality with any other SLn under the constitution of Sri Lanka who happened to be elected by the people of Sri Lanka to hold the highest office of that nation. If Sri Lanka is in the hand of a NON-Traitor then anybody whether Gen.Fonseka should be able to contest for that high office, hold rallies, be free for his freedom of speech and walk out free for his rights, liberties and freedom. If Gen. Fonseka is unable to do that in SL who do you think is the real traitor? who committed the true treason? which ultimately violates the true democracy? Right now it looks like Mahinda Rajapaksa!

But I have to stress a point here that the tamils in your country would have felt the same way when their fathers, brothers were taken in jail and killed, when their daughters, sisters were raped by army men. I would have appreciated if you have created a blog to express your feelings and make the world aware on anti democratic activities happening in your country for decades now and not just when you father has been arrested.
You will need to take the US help and support if you would want to restore the real democracy in SL.

A warrant has been issued to take yoour b-i-l into custody. What is all this. This has gon too far. I think you should take substantial steps to stop this nonsense. You are in USA. CID has searched Danuna's Mothers Bank Deposit Boxes in 2 Banks and has found a big amount of US$ and local money which she has supposed to have said is your Fathers and your father has given it for safekeeping. and the court has issued an open warrant to arrest your brother in law. If you think your father who led the military in the so called patriotic war against LTTE is inhumanely treated by MR government, imagine the plea and pathetic condition of innocent Tamil civilians who died and currently living under the srilankan sinhala military control? Your father even claimed in quote “I strongly believe that this country (Srilanka) belongs to the Sinhalese” when he visited the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, true democratic land of opportunity, which is the second home to the largest Tamil Diaspora in the world. I strongly believe he committed crimes against Tamils based on this believe, to eliminate the entire Tamil race from that island.
Hopefully your father’s sufferings will end soon when he is brought under the Rule of Law for all the crimes Srilankan Military perpetuated on innocent Tamil civilians under his leadership during his 40 years of the so called service to Srilanka, which named unanimously by the majority Sinhalese.
Ruthless MR & brothers are worst criminals than your father and in no way capable of carrying out any investigation on your father, soon they will also be brought and punish under the rule of law.
The law and order is deteriorated in that island to its worst in the last 62 years of the so called independence from Britain. People have no voice in that island. Every major political party leader who came to power was using Tamil’s legitimate claim to portray Tamils as enemies of Sinhalese and fuelling hatred among the various ethnic groups and trying to hold on to power at any cost.
The rule of law, justice, democracy, humanity and all other good things of the civilized society are long disappeared in that island. Anyone who democratically opposes the government is either lost their life or living under continuous threat and their lives are in danger.
Today EU announced that they withdraw the GSP plus concessions to Srilanka. This is the beginning of the long suffering of the people of Srilanka, unless they come out and fight against the corruptive, ruthless regime to establish law and order, justice, democracy to let everyone in that island to enjoy freedom, dignity and equal rights.

ReplyDeleteWe urge government to release General Fonseka immediately. Sri Lanka is a democratic country and we respect different political views. Do not preach if you dont practice in Sri Lanka. If everyone is equal before law then MR should also face war crime allegations. Do not let it blow out of proportion. We respect both and do not betray any war hero. General Fonseka should not testify war crimes either. We defeated our enemy at a higher cost of lives on both sides. We cannot offer to lose our heros because they fought for us. People must rise up against the arrest of General Fonseka. He saved our lives, we will fight for his life. He defeated LTTE. He is our war hero!
